"In my capacity as Chair of Gabriela and Representative of Gabriela Women's Party, I categorically deny reports claiming support for former presidential Chief-of-Staff Mike Defensor and Aiko Melendez's candidacy for Quezon City's mayoralty and vice-mayoralty posts, respectively.
Gabriela and Gabriela Women's Party have been working for years now with individuals, groups and organizations, including the Office of Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista and Ms Joy Belmonte, for the promotion of the rights and improvement of the lives of women, including conducting seminars on Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act and livelihood trainings, but never with Mr Defensor and/or Ms Melendez.
I therefore declare the newspaper reports as untrue and not coming from Gabriela or Gabriela Women's Party."
